Monday to Friday covering the Wiveliscombe and Tiverton areas.

We are proud to be working exclusively with an independent merchant in the South of England, operating through five core divisions (Build, Timber, Plumbing & Heating, Roofing and Electrical), primarily serving trade customers with an extensive range of products with over 150 sites across the South of the UK.

- Serve customers with a smile, ensuring they leave satisfied and happy.
- Handle calls like a pro – return missed ones quickly and use voicemail smartly.
- Offer helpful product advice and back up your colleagues with your expertise.
- Boost sales by linking products and using your best sales skills.
- Drive sales forward with techniques like following up on quotes, promotional selling, and phone marketing.
- Keep an eye on customer special terms and make sure they’re used effectively.
- On-site? Be ready to secure orders at the best price for the company, while keeping costs in mind, and inform the branch of any pricing decisions.
- Make sure your branch has all the info they need for accurate and timely quotes.
- Team up with internal sales staff to get quotes out fast and win orders, always aiming for the best margin. Return all inquiries within three days.
- When doing site surveys, ensure customers approve details before placing orders (e.g., kitchen planning, joinery surveys, etc.).
- Wherever possible, fulfill orders from branch stock to keep things efficient.
- Place special orders with preferred suppliers, negotiate the best price, and make sure all the paperwork is spot-on.
- Work closely with your sales office to meet delivery expectations, and always keep customers in the loop if there are delays or issues.
- Track special orders to make sure they’re delivered on time, and promptly return any incorrect ones, considering any rehandling costs.
- Double-check any goods being returned for a refund to ensure they’re in good condition before processing.
- Handle customer complaints quickly and thoroughly – ask for help from Management when needed.
- Keep Branch Management in the loop about supply problems or customer dissatisfaction.
- Manage customer credit limits and payments, working with Branch Management to balance sales opportunities and financial risk.
- Keep organized records for each customer to help you unlock their full potential.
- Hunt for new business to grow your customer base and meet your targets.
- Stay up to date on product technology and regulations to enhance customer service.
- Keep a handy library of manufacturer literature and price lists.
- Stay aware of competitors and customers to spot new sales opportunities and avoid threats.
- Follow company procedures when handling payments and transactions.
- When stepping into other departments, make sure you follow the right processes.
- And most importantly, make work enjoyable – support and appreciate your colleagues!
- Follow Health and Safety guidelines to keep yourself, your team, and customers safe.
- Report any incidents that could lead to injury or damage to your Supervisor or Branch Management.
- Use the right protective gear when required.
- Handle and move products carefully to avoid accidents.
- Keep your workspace clean and organized.
- Speak up if you're unsure about any task and need guidance to do it safely.
- Help investigate any accidents to prevent them from happening again.
- Stay up to date on product knowledge by attending supplier training and in-house sessions.
- Always provide fast, friendly, and helpful service to customers.
- Represent the company with a neat appearance, and make sure your vehicle is tidy, too!
- Be flexible with your schedule and open to reasonable overtime when needed.
- Join in on all branch or department meetings.
- Support stocktaking efforts and follow all procedures to keep things running smoothly.
- Play a role in ensuring branch security and safety.
- Help out with any other tasks that Management asks to keep the branch efficient and successful.
What Skills and Experience will you need as the Sales Rep?
- Strong sales and negotiation skills, with a proven track record in the construction and building supply industry.
- In-depth knowledge of building materials, tools, and their applications in construction projects.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with contractors, builders, and suppliers.
- Excellent communication skills, both in person and over the phone.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and organizational skills to manage multiple accounts and meet sales targets.
- Proficiency in CRM software, inventory management systems, and Microsoft Office.
- Experience in the construction or building supply industry.
- Valid driver’s license, with the willingness to travel and manage a sales territory.
- Degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field (preferred), but relevant industry experience is highly valued.
- Certification in sales or construction (optional, but a plus).
- Customer service experience, with the ability to handle inquiries and complaints effectively.
- Team player with good time management skills and the flexibility to travel as needed.
- Salary of up to £34K DOE
