Trade Counter in construction
Exmouth site
Salary £27 -30 K DOE plus Overtime and Bonuses.
Monday to Friday on site 7.30am to 4.30pm
Every other Saturday 8am to 12pm paid as overtime.

We​ are proud to be working with an independent merchant in the South of England, operating through five core divisions (Build, Timber, Plumbing & Heating, Roofing and Electrical), primarily serving trade customers with an extensive range of products with over multiple sites across the UK. 
 
What is the purpose of the Trade Counter role?
Reporting directly to the Branch Manager:
This role is ideal for an ambitious and career-driven individual who is eager to bring fresh ideas and create a thriving department. Experience in kitchen/bathroom, plumbing and heating sector, with an understanding of products, services, and market trends will help you inspire and motivate employees to maximize sales and margins while fostering strong customer relationships. You'll play a key role in developing a well-managed, efficient department.
 
What are the responsibilities of the Trade Counter role?
 
Sales and Customer Service
  • Ensure customers receive polite, efficient service and satisfaction.
  • Provide product advice and support to customers and colleagues.
  • Offer flexible service, both on-site and at customers’ homes.
  • Encourage and implement effective sales techniques like linked selling.
  • Drive sales through quotation follow-ups, promotional selling, and telephone marketing.
  • Drive showroom sales with marketing initiatives and action plans.
  • Ensure timely and efficient pricing of enquiries and quotations to maximize margins.
  • Manage customer special terms and support external representatives.
  • Encourage servicing of customer orders from branch stock.
  • Ensure special orders are placed with preferred suppliers at the best price.
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers to meet delivery requirements and inform of delays.
  • Promptly handle customer special orders and manage returns efficiently.
  • Monitor customer credit limits and payments, liaising with management as needed.
  • Stay updated on product technology and regulations, identifying training needs.
  • Be aware of competitor activities to identify threats and opportunities.
  • Follow company procedures for handling payments and customer returns.
  • Support colleagues in resolving customer complaints.
  • Maintain clean and compliant sales and display areas.
  • Address stock shortages and ensure prompt, polite telephone service.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing and clear communication for role coverage.
  • Foster a supportive and enjoyable work environment.
General
  • Attend supplier training and in-house product training to develop product knowledge.
  • Be flexible in assisting management with overtime requests.
  • Attend and encourage participation in branch/departmental meetings.
  • Support rotational and period stocktaking.
  • Comply with health and safety requirements at all times.
  • Assist with branch security and undertake other duties as requested to aid efficient trading.
What qualifications and experience will you need in the Trade Counter role?
  • Experience in the kitchen/bathroom, plumbing and heating trade with an understanding of products, services, and market trends.
  • Proven track record in sales, with a proactive approach to winning and growing new business
  • Strong background in customer relationship management, developing true partnership approaches, and providing excellent product advice
